Narooma's year round temperate climate makes it a popular eco-tourism destination, attracting recreational anglers, divers, water-sports enthusiasts, bird-watchers and bush walkers. There is ocean, beach, and estuary fishing available, a spectacular cliff-top golf course, world class diving, surfing, and whale watching in Spring.
Narooma has an incredible number of beautiful beaches which are all easy to get to. There are only a few that are patrolled which are located at the southern end of the Golf Course and the main beach near the Narooma shops. Most are surf beaches which sport world class south coast waves all year round.
Montague Island is just a few short kilometers off the coast from Narooma. A little further out the mighty Continental Shelf comes it’s closest to the Australian mainland which makes for extraordinary fishing conditions. Narooma is divided by the beautiful Wagonga Inlet which also houses an enormous number of fish species so you can drop a line almost anywhere in hope to catch a fresh fish in our pristine waters.
On the lighter side, beautiful Whales grace our waters for approximately three months of each year. From mid September the port of Narooma is geared up for some of the best whale watching that Australia has to offer.
Narooma also boasts one of Australia’s best and most scenic Golf Courses. You can relax and enjoy pristine ocean and island views. 9 and 18 holes are on offer, and hopefully if you play a round during the whale season you will have stories to swap in the clubhouse. The highly regarded Sea Horse Restaurant and modern bistro are both located within the Golf Clubhouse and offer exceptional food and wine menus that when coupled with the scenic views are simply unbeatable.
Wildlife is truly one of Narooma’s premier attractions. It is surrounded by native bush and has a great range of bushtracks, some short and some extensive suiting both novice and experienced walkers. One of the best walks is the Mount Dromedary (Gulaga) bush track that scales the mountain from base to summit. It is well worth the climb as the views are extremely rewarding and the photographs you take will certainly shine in your photo album.
Most of the bushland surrounding Narooma is accesssible to the public so it make it easy to see the local abundance of native wildlife. You will hopefully see Koalas, Kangaroos, Lyrebirds, Snakes, Possums and also a Sea Eagle or Wedge tailed Eagle, a Kingfisher, Bell birds up in the forest and a whole lot more.
Please also always take a First Aid Kit with you anytime you go bushwalking.
